Ethical or Sustainable?

Do you know what the difference is between ethical and sustainable? Have you been hearing about slow fashion but you are not sure what it is or how does it work?  Sustainable Pineapple has an easy way to explain these concepts.

 Ethical Fashion:

Ethical definition.  Moral principles that govern a person or in this case a brand behaviour or the conducting of an activity such us work fair rights, animal cruelty and environment care.

Let’s start  by thinking about how much a tee costs you. If you thought $5 to $20 price range for the tee then you were probably thinking about fast fashion. These multinationals brands that they manufacture mass production in China, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Vietnam and they have store worldwide.  Is this price fair to you? Have you ever wondered how much these brands are paying for the tee to the factory?  Have you stopped and thought about how it can be possible to pay $ 20 and then buy it on sale because it’d cost $9.99 – how much do these companies actually  pay to the factories and how much their employees will earn.

In early 2000’s was a massive movement to fight against the abuse of human rights in the factories of big brands which exploit kids to work for them for more than 8 hours, pregnant women were fired, if the employee was sick and took a day off this employee wouldn’t be any longer working for the brand. This movement helped to protect the rights of these employees.  After this dark turn fashion brands started to be more aware to be more ethical with their employees and then they started to be more careful with animal cruelty and environment care. However, they still creating pollution in another different ways such a dying the materials, using chemical products, and over produce the product which will affect to the environment.

Sustainable Fashion:

Sustainable definition.   Is the ability to be sustained, supported, upheld, or confirmed. The quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance.

People thinks that sustainable and ethical are the same. I personally think that they are related but has so many differences. Let me explain what I understand for sustainable fashion.  Sustainable fashion is these brands who are looking for a durable, Eco-friendly, animal friendly product with an ethical program. These brands are innovating new fabrics, new machinery and different ways to process the fabrics without making more pollution.

Why are we still buying no ethical/ sustainable fashion?

Easy, we are thinking that ethical or sustainable fashion has boring products quite expensive and difficult to find. If you are thinking this you are WRONG! You need to change your perspective of seeing this new fashion. You can started with recycling your clothes. For example if you don’t like your denims because are old fashion, you can take them to a tailor and add something that is on trend. You just need to change simple behaviours in your life.

SIMPLE CHANGES MAKE DIFFERENCE
